Accessible Benchtops
Explore suitable bench heights, work areas and clearances to make everyday kitchen tasks more manageable for different users and mobility requirements.
Make everyday household tasks more comfortable, practical and accessible. HC Renovations helps homeowners and support teams explore kitchen and laundry modifications designed around individual mobility, access and safety needs.
Kitchens and laundries are among the most frequently used spaces in a home. When benches, storage, appliances or access points are difficult to reach, ordinary household routines can become challenging.
Well-considered modifications can help improve usability, movement and convenience. Every home and individual is different, so the right solution should reflect the person's functional requirements, the available space and the recommendations provided by their Occupational Therapist (OT), where applicable.
From individual adjustments to broader layout improvements, we can help explore building solutions that support better access and everyday use.

Explore doorway, circulation and access changes that may help improve movement between the kitchen, laundry and adjoining living areas.
An accessible kitchen or laundry is not simply about changing fixtures. It is about considering how a person uses the space, what they need to reach, how they move around the room and which changes are practical for the property.
Where an OT assessment or recommendation is available, it can help inform the proposed scope. Our construction planning can then consider the building requirements, materials, services and installation details.
Start with a conversation about the property, the required changes and your project goals.
We aim to make the project journey straightforward, with clear communication from the initial enquiry through to installation and handover.
Tell us about the home, the areas requiring modification and the outcomes you are hoping to achieve.
We review available plans, photos, OT recommendations and project information. A site visit may be required.
We discuss the proposed building work, relevant project considerations, scope and quotation.
Once arrangements and approvals are in place, work is scheduled and completed with relevant handover information.
Kitchen and laundry modifications may form part of a broader home modification project. Where NDIS funding is being considered, the proposed work should be supported by the appropriate assessment, documentation and funding arrangements.
HC Renovations can discuss the construction scope and review relevant project information supplied by participants, families, OTs or support coordinators.

They are changes to fixtures, fittings, layouts or building elements that may improve access, usability and safety in household spaces. Examples can include accessible benchtops, storage adjustments, appliance positioning, sink and tapware changes, and improved circulation areas.
Depending on the property and the individual's requirements, modifications may include changes to work surfaces, cabinetry, appliance locations, clearances and access routes. The appropriate design should be informed by individual needs, measurements and relevant professional recommendations.
Many existing laundry spaces can be reviewed for possible improvements. The options depend on the room size, plumbing and electrical locations, existing fixtures, structural conditions and the modifications required.
If the project relates to disability support or an NDIS home modification request, an OT assessment and recommendations may be required as part of the relevant process. The exact documentation depends on the proposed work and funding pathway. An OT provides functional recommendations; building work is planned separately.
Some home modifications may be considered under the NDIS where they meet the applicable funding criteria and have the required supporting evidence. Funding is not automatic. The NDIA or relevant funding decision-maker determines eligibility and approval.
Helpful information includes your location, photos of the existing kitchen or laundry, approximate measurements, a description of the required changes and any relevant OT recommendations or plans. A site visit may be needed before a final scope and quotation can be prepared.
